The White House is rescheduling one of its annual spring garden tour dates due to a “massive” anti-Trump demonstration expected to take place near 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
The spring garden tours that were scheduled for Saturday have been pushed a day later, to Sunday, the White House announced Thursday.
“This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all within proximity to public demonstrations planned near the White House on April 5,” a statement said.
The move comes as crowds are expected to gather on the National Mall in Washington on Saturday for a “Hands Off!” rally. The event, timed as part of a National Day of Action, is described by organizers as a “mass mobilization day” aimed at sending a “message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of [President] Trump and his billionaire allies.”The White House is rescheduling one of its annual spring garden tour dates due to a “massive” anti-Trump demonstration expected to take place near 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The spring garden tours that were scheduled for Saturday have been pushed a day later, to Sunday, the White House announced Thursday. “This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all within proximity to public demonstrations planned near the White House on April 5,” a statement said. Thai Public Television reported that an investigation by the Ministry of Industry found that about 10% of the steel bars used in the collapsed building did not meet specifications. Thitiphat Thongplew, an assistant to the Minister of Industry, revealed that the Thai Steel Institute tested 20 steel bar samples taken from the accident site, and two steel bar samples of different sizes failed the test. Their quality, chemical composition, and compressive strength were all substandard. Photos provided by the Ministry of Industry showed that this batch of steel bars belonged to the "Sky" brand, and the manufacturer was Xinkeyuan Steel Company. The factory of this company located in Rayong Province was closed by the authorities last December for violating safety regulations.Thai Public Television reported that an investigation by the Ministry of Industry found that about 10% of the steel bars used in the collapsed building did not meet specifications. The National Audit Office building under construction in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, collapsed during the strong earthquake in Myanmar last week. China Railway 10th Bureau Group, a Chinese state-owned enterprise involved in the construction, has fallen into controversy in Thailand and is facing investigations. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand issued a statement saying that China Railway 10th Bureau is actively cooperating with the Thai authorities' investigations and opposes the slander and smearing of Chinese enterprises.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Tuesday (April 1) ordered a thorough investigation into all enterprises and construction projects associated with the collapse of the National Audit Office building to ensure the safety of other buildings in Thailand.
The spokesperson emphasized that China supports the legal investigation of the improper behavior of individual enterprises but opposes the slander and smearing of Chinese-funded enterprises.
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand posted on its official WeChat account on the same day, calling on Chinese enterprises operating overseas to abide by local laws and indicating that it will guide relevant Chinese-funded enterprises to actively cooperate with the Thai government's investigations.
In a press conference held on Friday (April 4) in the form of Q&A on its official WeChat account, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Thailand responded to how to evaluate the discussions about Chinese-funded enterprises in Thailand. The spokesperson said that China Railway 10th Bureau (Thailand) recently participated in the construction of a building that collapsed during the earthquake and caused casualties, which has attracted widespread attention from Thai society. The Thai government is currently investigating the cause of the collapse.
The spokesperson pointed out that a large number of Chinese enterprises have responded to Thailand's investment promotion policies in recent years and gone to Thailand for investment and business operations. These Chinese-funded enterprises in Thailand have created hundreds of thousands of jobs for Thailand, trained a large number of highly skilled talents, made important contributions to Thailand's industrial development and tax revenue increase, and actively fulfilled their social responsibilities by participating in disaster relief and carrying out various social public welfare activities. The National Audit Office building under construction in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, collapsed during the strong earthquake in Myanmar last week. President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs are facing blowback from all corners – a market sell-off, foreign retaliation, anger from corporate America and skepticism from the Federal Reserve chairman and some allies in Congress. So far, the president is defiant in the face of the global turbulence.
After a day and a half of mixed messages from Trump and top administration officials over whether the tariffs were the start of a negotiation or a more permanent change to US economic policy, Trump didn’t use Friday to deliver clarity. He didn’t venture out into the country to sell his plan from the floor of an American factory or to showcase a business or community that he believes will benefit from the tariffs.
Instead, the president chose to begin his day on the golf course in Florida.
The financial markets were already falling by the time he left his Mar-a-Lago resort for a short ride to the Trump International Golf Club. He waved to onlookers as his presidential limousine rolled through the gates.President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs are facing blowback from all corners – a market sell-off, foreign retaliation, anger from corporate America and skepticism from the Federal Reserve chairman and some allies in Congress.
