Arsenal will host Leeds in their first home match of the Premier League season this afternoon.

Both sides got their 2025/26 top-flight campaigns off to winning starts in the opening round of fixtures.

The Gunners beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford, with Riccardo Calafiori scoring the only goal of a tense clash.

It was a similar story for Leeds, who announced their return to the Premier League by winning a close encounter with Everton at Elland Road.

Debutant Lukas Nmecha slotted home an 84th-minute winner from the penalty spot after James Tarkowski was penalised for handball.

With the two teams enjoying a clean sheet and a win in their openers, something will have to give.

Arsenal v Leeds: Where to watch

The Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium will take place on Saturday, August 23.

Kick-off is set for 5:30pm, and has been selected for TV coverage.

The match will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League.

Arsenal v Leeds: Pressure on the Gunners

Despite strengthening their squad significantly this summer, Arsenal looked unconvincing in their win over Man United.

Mikel Arteta has been backed heavily in the transfer window, with the Gunners bringing in Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke for an estimated £165million combined.

There was plenty of focus on Gyokeres at Old Trafford, who was making his competitive debut following his £63.7m arrival from Sporting Lisbon.

Unfortunately for the Swede, he struggled to make an impact, failing to register a single shot in his 60 minutes of action.

Having been starved of service against the Red Devils, Gyokeres will be hoping play a bigger role against Leeds.

There is extra pressure on the 27-year-old now following an injury to Kai Havertz, who has sustained a knee injury, with a return date currently unclear.

As for Leeds, Daniel Farke’s side be hoping to keep Arsenal’s attack at bay after a solid defensive display against Everton.

The Whites restricted the Toffees to just seven shots over 90 minutes, with only one of them going on target.

Arsenal v Leeds: Team news

As mentioned, Arsenal will be without Havertz for this clash following the news of his knee injury earlier this week.

It is also unclear whether full-back Ben White is a doubt ahead of the clash, after he sat out the Gunners’ open training session on Wednesday.

Christian Norgaard missed the trip to Manchester with a minor issue, and could be involved against Leeds.

But Ben White is doubtful.

Gabriel Jesus remains a long-term absentee, with a return from his knee injury still several months away.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze looks poised to join the Gunners imminently after the two clubs agreed a deal in principle for him to head to north London for £60m, plus add-ons.

However, Eze won’t be registered in time to play, but he could be presented to the Emirates faithful.

As for Leeds, their biggest injury blow comes in the form of captain Ethan Ampadu.

Manager Daniel Farke confirmed the Wales international will be out until at least the September international break, after he sustained a knee injury in his side’s win over Everton.

New signing Noah Okafor could be involved against Arsenal following his £18m move to Elland Road from AC Milan on Thursday.

Farke also refused to reveal whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin would play any part in the match.

The ex-Everton striker signed a three-year contract with Leeds last week, but was left out of their matchday squad against his former side.

Despite his newly-promoted side heading into the clash as underdogs, Leeds boss Farke insisted his team will not just sit back and defend against the Premier League’s big name clubs this season.

He said ahead of the Arsenal match: “We won’t sell our DNA in this Premier League season.

“It’s not like we will try to park the bus and try to put the ball in the stands. If you try to concentrate and defend for 96 minutes, you have no chance to survive there.

“You have to make sure you have as many periods as possible when you control the ball and recover in possession and let them shift and waste some energy without the ball.

We will try to have as many periods as possible where we control the game.

“I think it’s important to create chances to scare them and be dangerous ourselves and play positive football to try and score goals.

“There will be periods in the game where we will suffer and be well structured and be a compact unit against the ball.”
