We have another full set of League One fixtures to look forward to this weekend, with 22 out of 24 teams in action on Saturday.

We have previewed five of the matches taking place, including both of the 12.30pm kick-offs.

A £10 wager on our three-leg acca would pay out £63.33, while the same stake on our five-leg version offers a potential return of £204.25.

Peterborough United vs Luton Town: Luton to win

Luton Town are still receiving parachute payments from the Premier League, so it is no surprise they are the clear favourites to win the League One title this term.

Back-to-back relegations were extremely painful for the Hatters, but they finally look to be on an upward trajectory again.

Luton left it late to overcome a stubborn Wimbledon side on matchday one, with the only goal of the game coming in the 85th minute.

Matt Bloomfield’s boys were frustrated for long periods of that game, but they did at least completely shut down Wimbledon as an attacking force.

Peterborough United will take more risks than the Dons did – and that might actually play into Luton’s hands.

The Hatters have plenty of quality at their disposal and that is likely to make the difference in this lunchtime kick-off, even though they will not have everything their own way.

Leyton Orient vs Wigan Athletic: Both teams to score

Leyton Orient were one of the teams of the League One season in 2024/25, upsetting the odds to finish sixth before losing the play-off final to Charlton Athletic.

They have lost some key players from last term, most notably four loanees who were instrumental in their success.

It will therefore be tough for Orient to be involved in the promotion picture once again, and Richie Wellens’s side were well beaten by Huddersfield Town on matchday one.

Orient are striving to bounce back from that 3-0 defeat, and they will hope that home advantage works in their favour this weekend.

Wigan Athletic turned in a confident display in their first outing of 2025/26, beating Northampton Town 3-1.

Wigan created numerous chances against the Cobblers, so they will give Orient plenty to think about here. Goals at both ends is the way to go.

Bolton Wanderers vs Plymouth Argyle: Over 2.5 goals

Bolton Wanderers look well positioned to challenge for the top two this season, having worked hard over the summer to strengthen their squad.

Steven Schumacher has had his first pre-season with the team and Bolton have bolstered their options in virtually every part of the pitch.

Yet that did not prevent them going down 2-0 to Stockport County last time out. Granted, that was a tricky opening encounter for Schumacher’s side. But Bolton need to get that defeat out of their system quickly.

Plymouth Argyle, whom Schumacher guided to promotion from this division in a previous job, were also beaten last time out.

A 3-1 loss to Barnsley represented a poor start for the relegated club, and they will be keen to make amends here.

Both teams will look to play on the front foot, which should make this a fun game.

Reading vs Huddersfield Town: Draw at half-time

This is the other early match on Saturday, with Reading and Huddersfield Town ready to go at it at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading put their recent off-field nightmares behind them last season, finishing seventh to narrowly miss out on the play-offs.

Breaking into the top six is the objective in 2025/26, but Reading got their promotion bid off to an underwhelming start with a 2-0 defeat by Lincoln City.

The Royals had plenty of possession in that match, but they looked short on ideas when they had the ball.

Huddersfield, who beat Leyton Orient 3-0 with a minority of possession last time out, will have watched Reading’s struggles with interest.

Expect the Terriers to dig in and bide their time, before attempting to hit Reading on the break. This looks likely to be a slow burner.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Stockport County: Stockport or draw

Stockport have risen from the National League to League One in three years – and they do not intend to stop here.

Promotion is a genuine objective for Dave Challinor’s team, who finished third last time out and are now aiming to go one better.

Wycombe Wanderers were also not far away from automatic promotion in 2024/25, so this game looks like one of the highlights of the League One weekend.

Whereas Stockport are a settled, coherent unit under Challinor, doubts persist over Mike Dodds’s suitability to the managerial role at Wycombe.

His side lost 2-1 to Bradford City last weekend and we do not see them emerging triumphant over Stockport either.
