Saturday horse racing tips

  • ASCOT
    1.35: Manaccan 7/1 each-way (1pt)
    3.55: Topteam 3/1 (1pt)
  • HAYDOCK
    3.00: Detain 7/2 (1pt)
  • NEWMARKET
    3.07: Royal Velvet 5/2 (1pt)
    3.40: Dance to The Music 6/4 (NAP – 2pts)

Manaccan

There’s only two horses here that have won over course and distance, Dream Composer and Manaccan.

Hollie Doyle rides the latter and makes plenty of appeal despite being the top-weight.

The British jockey often thrives at Ascot in handicaps including always being a regular in Shergar Cup.

Manaccan is down to a very dangerous weight and did win this race under Hayley Turner when 1lb higher in 2022.

Part of his return means getting back into the swing of things after 773 days away, so can be excused for his finish in Group 1 company on return.

Topteam

Hasn’t won by big margins in his last two runs but that form suggests he’s just doing enough to get the job done.

The colt also won’t mind the change in jockeys as he’s had five different jockeys ride in his six career runs.

The three-year-old is still on this basis dangerously unexposed for most his age and this step up in class is very interesting to prove his ability.

Detain

Three-year-olds haven’t won this race for three years but they were very common.

There’s just one such runner this time – Detain.

Rossa Ryan board the John & Thady Gosden-trained colt who was very disappointing at Royal Ascot but could bounce back here after two decent Group 1 performances in France.

He will receive 8lb from his older rivals and that should be enough to justify his near favourite price.

Royal Velvet

Oisin Murphy is appointed the ride after having a great couple of weeks.

The William Knight-trained four-year-old has now won twice in four runs and looks set to keep progressing.

Course and distance form and win is also a great bonus in a race like this to get the better of the higher-rated Jumby.

Dance To The Music

Been hammered into 6/4 after being opened up at 5/2 in the betting.

Billy Loughnane on board the Charlie Appleby-trained Godolphin horse is always interesting.

This filly appeals a lot after winning on debut and though she may not have the experience of the others she has a lot of potential after winning here over 6f in May.

The step up in trip is going to suit based on her being by Dubawi and out of Miss Lucifer, so this filly is a full sister to Space Blues, who actually started over 1m then dropped down in trip to get the wins going at 7f.
