Brad Pitt was spotted filming a new movie on the same day his mother, Jane Etta Pitt, died.

According to photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Brad, 61, appeared to be hard at work on the set of The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth in Gardena, California, on Tuesday, August 5.

An obituary published by the Springfield News-Leader later confirmed that Jane passed away peacefully that same day in Springfield, Missouri. She was 84.

“Her passing came just six days before what would have marked her 63rd wedding anniversary and one week shy of her 85th birthday,” Jane’s obituary stated.

Brad’s niece Sydney Pitt first confirmed the news via Instagram with a lengthy tribute.

“If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart,” Sydney wrote on Wednesday, August 6. “She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked. … We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.”

While her son found success as a Hollywood actor, Jane began her professional journey as an elementary school teacher. She was also praised as a gifted artist who expressed herself most vividly through painting.

“Her heart extended far beyond home and especially to Ethiopia, where three of her grandchildren were born,” Jane’s obituary stated. “Jane deeply connected with the communities there during visits that included meaningful work in Korah, a community within Addis Ababa facing significant hardship. Her passion inspired ongoing projects led by her granddaughters to continue supporting those communities.”

Brad shares Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, Knox, 17, and Vivienne, 17, with ex Angelina Jolie. Zahara was born in Ethiopia before she was adopted by Brad and Angelina, 50.

While Brad has yet to publicly comment on his mom’s death, he briefly discussed his mom with a rare mention during the F1 press tour in June.

“I got to say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning,” Brad told Today show’s Savannah Guthrie before a special screening of his latest film. “To Jane Pitt. Love you mom.”

While a private celebration of life will be held for Jane at a future date, those closest to her are remembering the love and care she showed for those around her.

“She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it,” Sydney wrote in her online tribute. “I don’t know how we move forward without her. But I know she’s still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form.”
