Rashawn Slater’s new contract makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

The Los Angeles Chargers tackle signed a massive $114 million deal over four years.

Slater is one of the best tackles in the NFL

His status as franchise quarterback Justin Herbert‘s No. 1 protector will net him $28.5 million per season — an all-time high for his position.

A post from aggregator account Dov Kleiman on X celebrated the contract by referencing Slater’s divorce.

“Legendary: Chargers star tackle Rashawn Slater finalized his divorce from his wife recently. Today, Slater signed a $144 MILLION contract extension with the team, including a $29 million signing bonus. Talk about good timing,” it read.

“A historic deal where his ex-wife won’t see a dime of it. $92 MILLION guaranteed,” added a second post.

Slater’s ex-wife Stassney Brown was furious at the tone of the message.

“This is deplorable,” she wrote on her own account. “I hold nothing but support for Rashawn. His contract is not about me.

“I think we should focus on what’s most important here, and that is his career and his success.

“Please stop including me in this narrative. He deserves his moment.”

Fans posted their support in the replies.

“Sorry for what you’re going through,” wrote one.

“Good on you for calling out the clickbaiters. Wish you both well,” added another.

“I personally as a chargers fan apologize for the people attacking you when youre not involved,” a third posted. “We dont know the situation between the two of you so when news like that hits everyone has the back of their favorite player. Hopefully youre not that affected by these false comments.”

Slater was selected buy the Chargers with the 13th overall pick in the 2021 draft.

He has made two Pro Bowls since then and was set to play on a $19 million fifth-year rookie option.

The left tackle reported to training camp on July 16 despite ongoing talks and has now secured the bag.

Herbert will be as delighted as anybody.
