Pep Guardiola has closed the door on Savinho leaving Manchester City, talkSPORT understands.

Tottenham wanted to sign the winger in a potential club-record deal but Guardiola does not want to lose him.

It means the Brazilian will be staying at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Savinho only arrived at the club last summer, going on to make 29 Premier League appearances and another nine in the Champions League.

The winger also provided ten assists in all competitions.

Spurs may now move onto other wide targets, while they also close in on signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

Savinho was believed to be open to making the switch to north London after just one season in Manchester.

Spurs are in the market for another attacking option after James Maddison suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

What has Pep Guardiola said on Savinho?

After a hat-trick of assists in a 4-1 win over West Ham in January, City boss Pep Guardiola waxed lyrical about Savinho.

“I think he’s clear in his mind,” he said. “He doesn’t think too much in his head. When you are many years here, players think they deserve something special for what they have done.

Spurs have had a busy summer and it looks like Eze will be next, not Savinho

“That is a big mistake. You have to prove it again and again. Savinho has everything to win and prove.

“Having old fashioned football with left foot on the left and right on the right, these kinds of crosses help the kind of striker we have.

“The second goal at Leicester and the second goal today. He has a lot to improve, he is not aggressive enough without the ball.

“But right now he has something special to help the team.

“His goal was lucky, but the two assists were brilliant. I am so happy for him, and he deserves to play.”

Away from the transfer market, Spurs have made a positive start to the season having dispatched Burnley 3-0 in their opening Premier League fixture last weekend.

Spurs came mightily close to beating last season’s Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.

The north Londoners led 2-0 thanks to goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

However, Lee Kang-in’s long-range effort and a header by Goncalo Ramos in the final seconds of stoppage-time saw PSG take the match to penalties, which they subsequently won.

Spurs’ next outing incidentally sees them face Man City at the Etihad on Saturday at 12:30pm, live on talkSPORT.
