Saturday horse racing tips

  • NEWBURY
    1.50: Epic Poet 7/2 (1pt)
    3.35: Witness Stand 5/1 each-way (1pt)
    5.20: Skimmer 4/5 (1.5pts)
  • RIPON
    2.10: Al Shaham 11/8 (1pt)
  • CURRAGH
    3.27: Los Angeles 1/1 (2pts – NAP)

Epic Poet

Candleford is an interesting inclusion in this but I can’t see past the fact he’s seven-years-old and not won or even raced over this kind of a distance much.

He’s been seen twice over 1m6f before and was far behind, unplaced in both.

Three-year-old Pinhole gets 9lb from his older rivals and this Frankel colt showed what he’s capable of at Ascot over 1m4f last month.

He’s dangerously unexposed having been seen over 1m4f just twice and 1m6f once, where he finished a respectable 8th of 13 in Royal Ascot in Group 2 company.

However, Epic Poet‘s place behind Rebel’s Romance at York in May suggests more can be coming from this six-year-old who only conceded 5lb to his higher-rated rival in that Group 2 contest.

Witness Stand

Made it four wins from nine runs last time out at Newmarket in July.

He was only a head behind at Royal Ascot in June so was remarkably close to a hattrick before going on to win upped to 7f.

This looks tougher though coming up against higher-rated horses including Witness Stand, who bounced back since returning off a small break in July.

He won over course and distance by 3 lengths in listed company when rated 10lb lower and doesn’t give much weight away.

Skimmer

Odds-on for a reason and Colin Keane is back on board the flurry of Juddmonte-owned horses with this being his best chance for a win this weekend according to the odds.

He’s now won two of two and this Kingman colt is looking impressive for trainer Harry Charlton.

Al Shaham

Blue Point colt who impressed on debut winning by over four lengths but it was expected as the 2/5 favourite.

Only that still puts him ahead of the rest as he still got the job done so convincingly.

Gold Queen Kindly was tipped ten days ago to win and obliged nicely, but trainers Simon & Ed Crisford oversaw this course and distance win from Al Shaham which also really helps.

Los Angeles

Course and distance winner and super star who carries 10st compared to Zahrann who’s rated 12lb lower and also carries 12lb less than the Aidan O’Brien winner.

He’s rated 122 now and though he placed fifth two months ago but wins Group 1’s and 2’s easily so this Group 3 contest should still be easy enough off top-weight.
