The 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off at the home of reigning champions Liverpool, as Arne Slot’s men prepare to host Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night.

After winning their second Premier League crown by 10 points last season, the Reds have had a busy summer in the transfer market in a bid to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

Bournemouth enjoyed a positive campaign to finish ninth last term but a host of key players have left the club over the summer and now a daunting trip to Merseyside awaits.

These sides will go head-to-head in this Premier League opener, with the game due to start at 20:00 BST on Friday.

Reds can hit the ground running

After the disappointment of losing the Community Shield on a penalty shootout on Sunday, Slot will want a response from his side when they host the Cherries in their Premier League opener.

Virgil van Dijk penning a new deal at the end of last season was a massive boost for the Reds and he will once again be marshalling the backline for the hosts at Anfield.

Liverpool have an impressive recent record against Bournemouth, winning all of their last five meetings in all competitions.

The Cherries have failed to score in any of their last three games against Liverpool and there’s value to be had with that trend continuing on Friday night.

Liverpool can run riot

For a Bournemouth defence that has lost Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid, Milos Kerkez to Liverpool and Ilya Zabarnyi to Paris Saint-Germain, it doesn’t get much harder than a trip to Anfield for their opening game.

This iconic venue on Merseyside will hold some harrowing memories for Bournemouth fans, with their side losing on all of their last six visits, including a nightmare 9-0 defeat in August 2022.

While the scoreline is unlikely to be as one-sided as that this week, Liverpool have scored 23 goals in their last six home games against Bournemouth.

Scoring an average of 3.8 goals in that run of six home matches against the Cherries, Slot’s men to go over 2.5 goals appeals in this one.

Wirtz to hit the ground running

One of the most exciting additions to the Premier League this season, there’s rightly plenty of hype surrounding Germany international Florian Wirtz.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer Leverkusen last season.

While it might take time for Wirtz to adapt to his new surroundings at Liverpool, this is a player who has fantastic potential.

Happiest when running at defenders and finding pockets of space in and around the penalty spot, Wirtz is good value to have a goalscoring Premier League debut against a weakened Bournemouth defence under the lights at Anfield.
