The Premier League is back on Friday night as champions Liverpool get the new season up and running by welcoming Bournemouth to Anfield on what is sure to be an emotional evening at the famous Merseyside venue.

It’s opening night in France and Spain, too, with three games to take in across Ligue 1 and La Liga, and Celtic being the defence of their League Cup crown in Scotland, while we also have a bet from the Danish Superligaen.

Bet of the Day – Liverpool to win & over 3.5 goals @ 49/40

Liverpool have won nine of their last 12 Premier League openers and the Reds should add to that tally as Bournemouth visit Anfield.

The champions embark on a new season against the backdrop of the tragic loss of Diogo Jota and this occasion will be emotional for them.

Arne Slot has added £250m in summer reinforcements, with Florian Wirtz the marquee recruit. He looked very much at home in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace.

The Cherries have lost some high-profile names, particularly at the back. Milos Kerkez faces his old side, while Ilya Zabarnyi left for PSG this week and Dean Huijsen has joined Real Madrid. Last season’s loan keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is also gone.

That is quite the of talent for Andoni Iraola to be without and his side may struggle to contain a Reds side that looks stronger on paper than last time.

Palace showed at Wembley that Slot’s team may take some time to adjust following their own summer changes and the visitors could get on the scoresheet.

They have lost their last five visits to Anfield conceding 23 goals in doing so and it could be another long night for the south coast side.

Special of the Day – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang anytime score & over 2.5 goals in Rennes v Marseille @ 41/20

Veteran forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back with Marseille, a year after departing for the Saudi Pro League.

He netted 21 times in 36 games for Al-Qadsiah, but re-joined last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up on a free transfer last month.

The Gabon international previously managed 30 goals and 11 assists in 51 games during his first spell in 2023/24.

He hit a brace after coming on as a second-half sub in last weekend’s friendly win over Aston Villa.

Aubameyang has five goals in 10 Ligue 1 appearances against Rennes, while he also hit a Europa League brace for Arsenal in 2019.

There were nine goals across the two Ligue 1 meetings between this pair last season. Five of Rennes’ last six league games have gone over 2.5 goals and eight of Marseille’s previous nine in Ligue 1 have done likewise.

Long Shot of the Day – FC Copenhagen -2 vs FC Nordsjaelland @ 13/2

FC Copenhagen suffered a shock defeat last weekend at home to Aarhus, but they responded strongly with a 5-0 win over Malmo in their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday.

Jacob Neestrup’s side have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven games and they could be set for a big win at second from bottom Nordsjaelland as they return to Superligaen action.

The hosts have leaked 10 goals in four games already, including seven in the last two, while Copenhagen have won the previous three head-to-heads, including a 3-0 win in May.

Mohamed Elyounoussi sparkled in midweek, scoring one and laying on two more and a second successive comprehensive win should be incoming for Copenhagen.
