Aston Villa vs Newcastle predictions
This could well be a game that screams a classic top six clash in a few months as both sides will be aiming high this season.
Villa finished sixth last season on the same points as Newcastle who finished in fifth by goal difference, but they’ll need to prove they’re at this level again.
Both sides have added to their squads though, but the main difference for the Magpies is Alexander Isak who is still trying to push a move away from St James’s Park.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle betting tips
Aston Villa can replicate last season
Villa beat Newcastle last season 4-1 just a few months ago and were ruthless in taking the lead and adding to it after a tough first half which ended 1-1.
Ian Maatsen and Amadou Onana scored well into the second half to go clear of Newcastle in this fixture last season, along with an own goal from Dan Burn.
Villa look like a very tough side to face this season as they’ve kept their top players, they’ve not made much of an impact in signing players.
Just adding Evann Guessand but crucially kept hold of the likes of Ollie Watkins.
Ollie Watkins to continue consistency
Watkins has been so consistent in the Premier League as a striker – making 35+ appearances every single year with Villa and scoring 11+ every single season.
11 was his lowest tally but the most came in the 2023/24 season where he not only assisted 13 but scored 19.
Last year with 24 goal involvements he showed his consistency once again with his second-best tally in the league for goals scored with 16.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the 29-year-old can actually start strong again and even beat previous years this season as he continues to build on experience while the Villa side grows stronger too.
