BMW Championship 2025 betting preview

This week’s BMW Championship in Maryland is the middle leg of the three-tournament FedEx Cup Playoff series and just 49 players go to post.

It should have been 50 but Austrian Sepp Straka withdrew on Monday.

The number of FedEx Cup hopefuls was cut from 70 after last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship where England’s Justin Rose produced a flying finish before defeating US Open champ J.J. Spaun in a dramatic playoff.

Rory McIlroy sat that one out but the Northern Irishman returns now and hopes his extra freshness can propel him to victory both here and at next week’s concluding Tour Championship in Atlanta where huge money is up for grabs.

The BMW Championship is a nomadic event and this year it pitches up at Caves Valley in Maryland.

Patrick Cantlay won with 27-under the last time it was used in 2021 but we won’t see such crazy scoring this year.

For one, par has been cut from 72 to 70. In addition, the course now measures 7,601 yards and is much firmer than it was three years ago.

Strong drivers of the ball should be suited to the test and despite the possibility of rain in round one, the rest of the tournament will be played in hot conditions with very little wind.

BMW Championship 2025 betting tips

🏌️‍♂️ Cameron Young can win again

If looking for an elite driver of the golf ball, Cameron Young jumps off the page.

He’s ranked 1st and 2nd for Strokes Gained: Off The Tee in his last two events and that ability to crush the driver both long and straight has paved the way for an overdue first PGA Tour win.

It came at the Wyndham Championship a fortnight ago when he blitzed the field by six shots and the 28-year-old New Yorker backed it up with fifth place at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Young is now pushing for a Ryder Cup spot but still needs a final charge to get onto Keegan Bradley’s team. This course looks ideal for him.

⛳ Take the Cameron Young 28/1 each-way with Betfair (1/5 odds, 6 Places) ⛳

🏌️‍♂️ Rickie Fowler to outscore Jason Day

We landed the 72-hole match bet last week with 21/20 outsider Ben Griffin easily beating Keegan Bradley by seven shots.

This week I’ll take Rickie Fowler at 4/5 with bet365 to outscore Jason Day.

Fowler needed a big finish last week to advance to the second leg of the Playoffs and got it with sixth place at St. Jude. He’s been playing nicely for a while now.

He’s also driving the ball much better than Day who is struggling after two missed cuts and a 56th in his last three starts.

Neither have played the course but Fowler’s superior form should get the job done.

⛳ Tip Rickie Fowler to outscore Jason Day at 4/5 with bet365 ⛳

🏌️‍♂️ Harris English for Top 10

Harris English has had a 2025 to remember after winning the Farmers Insurance Open in California and finishing runner-up in two of the last three majors

He’s up to No.8  in the world rankings and yet his price each week suggests something much lower than that.

Given his ability to thrive in elite fields and perform well on long courses, the 3/1 at Betfred for a Top 10 finish looks good business.

⛳ Pick Harris English to finish in the Top 10 at 3/1 with Betfred ⛳
