Southern Charm alum Olivia Flowers is getting candid about the reasons she and boyfriend Alex Williams called off their wedding.

“It was a decision we made together and honestly, we had so much stress about things post-wedding and I think we were scapegoating the wedding planning as, like, ‘Oh this is why we’re stressed,’” Flowers, 33, explained during the most recent episode of Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast. “But then three weeks out from the wedding, the wedding’s done being planned, you’re done and we’re still feeling that stressed. So we had a lot of difficult conversations, but they were essential and we realized we were both feeling stressed and nervous about things post-wedding.”

Flowers, who confirmed she and Williams are “still together” after announcing their wedding was canceled in October 2025, said that after speaking with their respective families, they realized “we can take a beat for ourselves” before walking down the aisle.

“We can hit pause and just kind of get back in alignment with each other and what we want to do,” she explained, noting that both she and Williams are currently focused on their careers. “The wedding got very big, and as much fun as I had planning it, it did kind of get away from me. And it’s a celebration, it’s a party to everyone with all our people and we love that, but for us it’s a step into forever and we take it very seriously.”

The reality star added that it was important for the couple to give themselves “a little more space to get back to feeling good” about saying “I do,” and to have that “space” to figure things out about their relationship.

“We were very excited for it and we had a great wedding planner, but we just started thinking, like — we were engaged for over a year and things just were changing. Like, his career needed him in another city, I wanted to be spending time more in New York and there were a lot of moving parts.”

Flowers confirmed that “the decision was made in love,” but a “pivot” was needed.

While the twosome, who started dating in May 2023, were ultimately happy with their choice, Flowers admitted that it was “really hard” to navigate once the wedding date actually arrived. She noted that it was like “five elephants in one room,” so she and Williams decided to spend time with loved ones separately.

Flowers headed to South Carolina, while Williams spent some time in Dallas.

“One thing about my bridesmaids, they know how to pivot a party,” she said with a laugh. “So we just pivoted … we just had a movie night. We made food and just took our mind off things. But it was tricky. We weathered the storm together, but we could not have done without our friends.”

The Bravo alum said that being with their friends on what would have been the big day gave them both a “reality check” that “everything is fine.”

“Your people are here and nobody died,” she explained, adding with a quip: “The budget, that got hurt a little bit.”

These days, Flowers said she and Williams are “stronger” for staying “so united” during the tumultuous time, sharing that she took time before speaking out about things publicly to make sure the twosome were “good.”

“It definitely is a level up in the relationship,” she said. “There’s a whole new space of authenticity and just, like, talking to each other. That’s how we reached the decision, is being like, ‘Something is off here.’ And recognizing the disconnect we were having. … So taking the time, we really prioritized communicating.”

When asked by the outlet whether it was her or Williams that first brought up the idea of canceling their nuptials, Flowers replied that it was actually her parents.

“My mom and dad noticed when we went to go visit with them they just felt it,” she said. “We thought we were doing a really good job at putting on a front and continuing on, but my parents called it out. … That was what started it.”

While she and Williams have no future date for a wedding planned — and haven’t labeled themselves as engaged specifically — Flowers is still wearing her ring, and hinted that a ceremony will happen one day.

“You definitely learn as you go, and the cool thing about this is I get to go back and do it again,” she explained. “I do see it being more intimate, but the wear and all that, I guess it just doesn’t matter all that much. I do want three outfit changes.”

Flowers and Williams took to social media in October 2025 to reveal the news that their wedding had been postponed. “After much thought and many heartfelt conversations, Olivia and her fiancé Alex have made the difficult decision to not move forward with their wedding,” a statement shared via Cabine Creative and Flowers’ Instagram read at the time. “This was not a decision made lightly, but one grounded in mutual respect and love for one another.”

The statement added that calling off the wedding wasn’t something neither Flowers nor Williams “originally envisioned,” but that the pair were “profoundly grateful for the love and support of their friends and family” and planned to “remain committed to each other with a renewed sense of clarity, strength and appreciation for honoring one’s heart.”

Flowers later broke her silence in December 2025, taking to Instagram to share a glimpse into what life had been like since calling off the nuptials.

“Well, November wasn’t the month I pictured… but it was still a special one thanks to these beautiful people,” she wrote alongside a series of photos that included her friends and Williams.
