Woods football signs 44 Indiana players for first NAIA recruiting class

After four successful seasons of sprint football, for players 190 pounds or under, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is headed for its first full-scale season of NAIA-level football with 44 Indiana recruits on the way.

Coach Blaine Powell's SMWC program announced its inaugural recruiting class for its first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics campaign on Thursday.

The Woods signed 66 incoming student-athletes "who will help shape the future of SMWC football as the program prepares for its transition into NAIA competition," according to a school sports information news release.

The group includes 44 Indiana recruits, as well as five from Texas, four from Kentucky and three each from Georgia and Florida, along with single recruits from seven other states, including Alabama, Virginia, Illinois, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
