If ever there was a mashup that perfectly captured Travis Kelce’s relationship with fiancée Taylor Swift, it’s the “So High School” and “Teenage Dirtbag” combination that played at the WM Phoenix Open.

Kelce, 36, seemed to love it, as video went viral on social media of him singing along on Wednesday, February 4, as the music blared over the loudspeaker.

“So High School,” from Swift’s 2024 album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, is seemingly about the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, as she sings about how “you know how to ball, I know Aristotle.” Swift, 36, also used the song when announcing the couple’s engagement in August 2025.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” she captioned the photos, with the opening lines of the song playing in the background.

“Teenage Dirtbag,” the 2000 hit from rock band Wheatus, also holds significance to Swift and Kelce. The two memorably sang a karaoke duet of the song during the early days of their relationship while hanging around the fire pit at Kelce’s Kansas City home.

“There was some wine involved, for sure,” Kelce told the Wall Street Journal in November 2023.

More than two years later, Kelce and Swift are gearing up to host what will likely be a star-studded wedding, though details have stayed under wraps. In the meantime, Swift is basking in the release of her most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl, which dropped in October 2025, while Kelce contemplates his own professional future.

The three-time Super Bowl champion hasn’t yet announced if he will return to professional football for the 2026 season, after publicly considering retirement each of the last two years.

“I’ve got so much love for this team, this organization and the people here, so I’ll spend some time with them, go through exit meetings tomorrow and get close to the family and figure things out,” Kelce told reporters after the Chiefs’ final game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders on January 4.

Kelce’s decision may be complicated by both the last season and the prospects for the next one. The Chiefs were a shocking disappointment in 2025, going 6-11 and missing the playoffs. It would make sense that Kelce would want to go out on a higher note, but there’s no guarantee he will be able to deliver that in 2026.

Patrick Mahomes, the team’s starting quarterback and Kelce’s close friend, tore his ACL and MCL in mid-December 2025. He underwent surgery just days later and is hoping to be ready for Week 1 of the upcoming season.

Travis admitted on the January 7 episode of his “New Heights” podcast, which he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce, that the decision has been “a tough thing to navigate.”

“I think if my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat,” he said. “I think right now it’s just finding that answer and seeing how the body feels after this game and when it all settles down.”
