The Washington Wizards aren’t going to rush Trae Young back.
The newly acquired Wizards’ point guard will be sidelined until after the All-Star break in mid-February as he continues to recover from MCL and quad injuries on the same leg, Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Wednesday.
Young has been dealing with lingering leg injuries all season, playing in just 10 games while averaging just 19.1 points and 8.9 assists per game, both the lowest since his rookie campaign in 2018-19.
Young was acquired via trade from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert on Jan. 9 after being a constant topic of trade discussions.
He and his agents worked with the franchise on a trade just days before he was dealt.
The 27-year-old last suited up on Dec. 27, when he was still a member of the Hawks. He played 31 minutes and had nine points (2-of-9 shooting) and 10 assists.
The four-time All-Star was drafted fifth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in 2018 but was dealt to Atlanta in a draft-night swap for Luka Doncic. Through 493 career games, Young averaged 25.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists.
The Wizards are 10-28 this season, and sit 14th in the Eastern Conference.
