Texas A&M's 2025-2026 season is off to a solid start under first-year head coach Bucky McMillan, who, despite losing three games in nonconference play, has his brand-new team playing its best basketball as of late, culminating in a 9-3 record before hosting Prairie View on Monday night.

Before hosting LSU on Saturday to start SEC play on Saturday night, McMillan and his staff, as well as the entire Texas A&M fan base, received devastating news, as transfer junior forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who appeared in seven games this season, will now miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury, just a month after recoving from offseason foot surgery.

This is a significant blow to the Aggies' depth, as Mgbako was averaging 10.4 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, and shooting 39% from the field. After testing the NBA Draft waters, the Indiana transfer's impressive performance left a lasting impression on all of us who immediately changed our expectations for what McMillan's first team would look like.

After missing several games to start the year, Mgbako began to play at a high level, while the Aggies are 6-1 with him in the lineup. For those who feel like this news essentially ends any hope of Texas A&M reaching the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year, we won't know how this team adjusts until SEC play begins.

With Mgbako officially out of the lineup, forwards Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson will need to step up on the boards. In contrast, guards Pop Isaacs, Jacari Lane, Marcus Hill, Ruben Dominguez, and Rylan Griffen will need to step up and help forward Rashaun Agee offensively.
