Meet Champ, the Labrador Retriever who serves as North Carolina State University’s official kicking tee retriever. His job is to sprint onto the field after kickoffs to fetch the tee, and he’s a pro at it! His dad strapped a GoPro to his back at a recent game so we can see the action from Champ’s point of view, and it’s so cool to watch.
The clip opens with Champ anxiously waiting for his cue as he watches the field. You can hear his dad reminding him to heel while he waits… and then finally giving him the go-ahead to get out there and do his thing. And you can hear the crowd go wild as soon as he takes off!
How exciting was it to watch Champ bob and weave around players and refs! His dad shared in the caption, "This was a fun one! Dodging refs and players to get that tee!"

Champ was hired as the official tee retriever at the beginning of this year's football season. The News & Observer featured him in an article in September 2025, sharing, "The 2-year-old black Labrador and his family, the O’Donnells, received boisterous applause and a standing ovation from the fans at Carter-Finley Stadium last week when Champ was introduced for the first time.
“He’s done an amazing job. I think he jumped in with all four paws ready to go,” said Michael O’Donnell, Champ’s dog dad. “I think I was the one that was more nervous than him.”
Champ's dad added, “I walk down the street and people recognize my dog before they recognize me, which is awesome!” We love to watch Champ in action and hope to see more videos before the end of the season!
