In September, Richmond Randle and Iowa Colony squared off in what turned out to be arguably the best regular season game in Texas.
The two teams face off once again with even higher stakes. Randle and Iowa Colony will meet up in the University Interscholastic League 5A Division II Region III championship game. That game takes place Friday night at Katy’s Legacy Stadium.

On Sept. 25, Randle outlasted Iowa Colony, 49-42. The Pioneers raced out to an early 21-0 lead before the Lions rallied due in large part to the play of junior tailback Landen Williams-Callis, who scored six touchdowns.
That loss turned out to be the lone blemish on Iowa Colony’s schedule. The Pioneers come in on an eight-game winning streak, including surviving last week’s regional semifinal contest against Brenham, winning 31-30.
Randle, which won the 5A DII championship last season in just its third year fielding a varsity program, has picked up where it left off last season.
Iowa Colony was the only team to get within single digits of the Lions, and in the Lions’ three postseason wins, they have scored a total of 196 points, including 83 in an 83-20 triumph against Bastrop in last week’s regional semis.
The Randle-Iowa Colony winner takes on the winner of the Region IV championship game, Boerne against San Antonio Alamo Heights, in next week’s 5A DII state semifinals. Those two teams also play on Friday, which will be in San Antonio.
