Wolves v West Ham predictions
The two Premier League sides yet to pick up a point in their opening two league games of the season go to battle tonight at Molineux for a place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Both teams have struggled heavily in the opening weekends of the season, but Wolves will head into tonight’s game a slight favourites with advantage of playing in front of their home fans.
Only goal difference currently separates Vitor Pereira’s side from the bottom of the Premier League table after suffering a 4-0 defeat at home against Manchester City on the opening day, which was followed by a 1-0 defeat with ten men on the south coast against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
The West Midlands have made it to at least the third round of the Carabao Cup in each of the last four seasons and will be desperate to keep that run going tonight as they bid for their first victory of the season ahead of a huge match against Everton on Saturday.
West Ham make the trip to the Black Country in an awful run of form after conceding eight goals in their opening two games of the campaign, being hammered 3-0 by newly promoted Sunderland on the opening day before suffering a 5-1 home defeat by Chelsea last Friday night.
Graham Potter is under a bit of pressure in his job as West Ham manager, some of which will be relieved if the east London side can progress through to the next round of the Carabao Cup tonight, which would be great preparation for their visit to the City Ground on Sunday.
It’s been 11 years since the Hammers, currently rock bottom of the Premier League table, last exited this competition at this early stage, and falling to three defeats in a row to start the new campaign would be a big worry for the Irons so early in the new season.
Both sides have really struggled so far this season but I think West Ham could emerge victorious from tonight’s game, in need of a big response for their fans after their horror show against Chelsea on Friday, while Wolves’ home fans may be quick to turn on them. I’m predicting a 2-1 away win.
Wolves v West Ham betting tips
Potter’s pongos to progress
It may actually benefit Potter’s men to be playing this game away from home, away of the potential toxicity of their home fans should things go awry, and with the chance to turn the Molineux faithful on their own players should the Hammers hit the ground running.
West Ham have the stronger side on paper and should be able to scrap to victory in game between two sides very low on confidence, and the Hammers’ quality should shine through
- West Ham to win and both teams to score at 5/1 with bet365
Captain Fantastic
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen will be looking to find some magic to turn his side’s barren run at the start of the season around and send them into this weekend’s league game with Nottingham Forest off the back of a crucial victory.
The England international has been West Ham’s top goal scorer in three of the last four seasons and is the Hammers’ best chance of being a match winner in what is likely to be a strong team named by an under-fire Potter in search of a first win.
- Jarrod Bowen to score at 11/5 with Ladbrokes
