Saturday horse racing tips
- YORK
1.50: King’s Gambit (1pt), 2.25: Tarriance & Cape Breton (1pt each), 3.00: Rosallion (1.5pts), 3.35: Ethical Diamond each-way (1pt)
King’s Gambit 5/2
Best rated of the field along with Skukuza but the Wathnan Racing-owned horse looks very dangerous going to this having been close up over 1m4f last year here just behind Los Angeles in the Voltigeur.
This Group 3 looks easier and the step back in trip to 1m1f should see him go back to his best where he can show his speed a bit more along with that staying power that allows him to challenge at a high level over 1m4f.
Tarriance 9/2 & Cape Breton 14/1
A few of these are stepping up to 1m6f for the first time but Tarriance has already proven that, when he stepped up to this distance last time out at Sandown.
He beat Pendragon by half a length and has only been upped 4lb for that.
He stylishly beat Gravitas by over four lengths in a maiden at Beverley, before then giving away 7lb to the same horse next time out at Doncaster and only just lost by a neck.
I’d anticipate this lightly raced colt has more to come and by Frankel it’s no wonder he’s a ready winner.
Another Juddmonte-owned horse also appeals in this as an each-way bet.
Cape Breton trained by Ralph Beckett won by over six lengths at Salisbury over 1m4f in June, the same horse that Tarriance beat by about three lengths at Sandown in July.
I think that form says a lot and makes him potentially well-weighted to strike upped to 1m6f for the first time.
He’s also by Frankel and should thrive over this distance too, very interesting.
Rosallion 13/8
Top-rated horse and favourite for a reason.
A few may side against him if they backed him in his three starts this season where he’s placed 3rd, 2nd and 2nd.
But he’s placed 2nd by such small margins, both in Group 1 company over 1m and absolutely has what it takes to win, it’s not that he’s below form as he’s got so close each time.
The drop to 7f is interesting – but has won as a two-year-old over this distance in Group 1 company and won’t be phased by this move.
Ethical Diamond 6/1
William Buick is on board the Willie Mullins-trained horse who is dangerously unexposed.
He’s been a great price for this race for some time and has gone into 6’s now.
He beat Mutaawid comfortably at Royal Ascot over 1m4f which is great form, his first flat race for a year too having gone to Royal Ascot in 2024 for his last go at the flat.
The step up to 1m6f won’t be an issue for the dual discipline horse having gone over hurdles in the 2024/25 jumps season for the Irish jumps legendary trainer.
He’s been having a lot of fortune on the flat too and knows how to get them to win these kinds of racing, you just have to look at the likes of Absurde for that.
Was upped 8lb for that latest victory as it was so impressive and now gets a chance at the showpiece of the week the Sky Bet Ebor Handicap.
