Tennis fans can expect to experience a new-look Arthur Ashe Stadium in time for the 2027 US Open.
A three-year project costing a total of $800million (£592m) is already underway at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre.
Plans were unveiled earlier this year with a new player performance centre to be erected at the site.
The facilities will cost $250million (£185m) and are expected to be opened in time for the 2027 edition.
Meanwhile, further changes will be in place for next year’s tournament with player relations director and former bro Eric Butorac issuing an update.
They include 2,000 new court-side seats with suites moved inside the arena.
A ‘grand entrance’ will also be added to the Arthur Ashe Stadium, which was opened in 1997 and last renovated nine years ago.
As the centrepiece for the site, the arena holds 23,771 fans as the host venue for the finals at the US Open.
US Open redevelopment plans
Ahead of this year’s event, Butorac lifted the lid on the renovations on the Nothing Major podcast.
He explained: “For the fans, we are going to totally re-do Arthur Ashe Stadium from the seating bowl side.
“The suites are going to move. There is going to be new court-side seats for 2026, and then they will have some club spaces in 2027.”
As for which changes have already been implemented for the 2025 US Open, Butorac added: “There are a couple of new touches this year.
“There’s a bar on Court 17, between Courts 16 and 17. You can see into 17 and have a great view.
“It’s something we are trying this year, and we could use that at some other points throughout the venue next year.”
New facilities for US Open players
It is not just fans who can expect to benefit from the renovations at Flushing Meadows, though.
Butorac has also highlighted the alterations planned for the players’ facilities at the venue.
He revealed: “Big renovations will be complete in 2027. It’s a three-year project. $800million investment.
“The player areas, as you guys know it, will be largely the same this year and next year, but by 2027, all of the player areas will move into this new building, which you will see the parking garage, which is complete, and they will live on top of that parking garage.
“So, all the player spaces will double in size. You guys know what the gym is like, the locker room is like, and the restaurants.
“It’s just absolutely slammed, and the teams now are bigger than the era when we played.”
The 145th edition of the US Open will officially get underway on Sunday with the start of the singles draws.
It follows the new-look mixed doubles tournament this week.
The US Open Mixed Doubles Championship will be held across Tuesday and Wednesday.
British duo Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu meet in the first round alongside their respective partners Jessica Pegula and Carlos Alcaraz.
