Rangers v Club Brugge predictions
Rangers face by far their toughest test of their Champions League qualifying journey so far tonight with the visit of Club Brugge for the first leg of their play-off round tie, a side who have reached the group stage of the competition in seven of the last nine seasons, and reached the last 16 last time out.
Russell Martin’s side have failed to impress outside of the Champions League so far this season, drawing both of their league games so far against Motherwell and Dundee, and last weekend saw them defeat third division Alloa in the League Cup in a less than convincing 4-2 win.
Full focus will now be on Tuesday night at Ibrox with the Scottish side looking to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in three years and just the second time in 15.
Rangers head into the match down in sixth in the Scottish Premiership table and with two wins in their last six matches in all competitions.
The Gers have already knocked out Greek side Panathinaikos and Czech side Viktora Plzen to reach this stage of the Champions League, just one more win away from reaching the league phase.
In Belgium, Club Brugge are already four games into their new league season and have picked up nine points from those games, leaving them with seven wins from their eight matches in all competitions which includes a victory over defending league champions Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Supercup, leaving a trophy already in the cabinet this season.
Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 victory at Zulte Waregem means that Nicky Hayen, who was manager of Welsh side Haverfordwest just over two years ago, has lead his side to four consecutive victories ahead of their trip to Ibrox, including notable wins home and away against Red Bull Salzburg in the last qualifying round.
The two sides have met in competitive action twice before in the the group stage of the first edition of the rebrand of this competition in 1992, with Rangers winning at home and drawing away – though they did meet in a pre-season friendly just last month, drawing 2-2 at Ibrox.
Rangers have been strong at home in the Champions League this season and know their best chance of reaching the league phase will rely on them winning at home against a very strong Club Brugge, whose strength could shine through, making me to think another 2-2 draw may be on the cards on Tuesday night in Scotland.
Rangers v Club Brugge betting tips
Goals expected at Ibrox
15 goals have been scored in Rangers’ last four matches following their 4-2 victory against Alloa in the League Cup on Saturday evening, with Martin’s men having bagged five goals across both of their home Champions League matches so far prior to Tuesday’s fixture.
The Gers’ defence is far from solid with only one clean sheet in their last six matches in all competitions, while Club Brugge have won six of their seven games this season, even scoring in their sole defeat.

Gassama to continue goalscoring form in Europe
Djeidi Gassama has bagged four goals and an assist across the six games he’s played for Rangers since joining from Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the summer, making him the club’s leading scorer this season.
All four of the 21-year-old Frenchman’s goals have come in the Champions League this season, with three of those coming at Ibrox including a brace at home in the last round against Viktoria Plzen.
