The 2025 PGA Tour season will reach a thrilling conclusion at the TOUR Championship this week.

East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia will host the season-ending event again this year as Scottie Scheffler eyes glory to win his second FedEx Cup.

Scheffler overturned a four-shot deficit to Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre to win the BMW Championship last weekend, with his incredible form this year continuing to shine.

He’ll be confident of securing the FedEx Cup for the second time, but the PGA Tour have got rid of the starting stroke advantage format.

Instead, the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood will be looking to take down the USA superstar and clinch victory.

The TOUR Championship will also give the PGA Tour’s top 30 players the last chance to impress before the 2025 Ryder Cup teams are confirmed next week.

This event is being held from Thursday, August 21 to Sunday, August 24.

TOUR Championship: What has been said?

The PGA Tour confirmed earlier this season that the TOUR Championship has scrapped the starting stroke format.

In recent years, the season-long FedEx Cup standings have handed the field starting strokes at East Lake, with the player with the most points leading into the tournament starting at 10 under par and decreasing down to level par.

That has been removed this season, meaning Akshay Bhatia, who is 30th in the FedEx Cup standings, has the same chance of winning the whole thing as runaway leader Scheffler.

The PGA Tour said: “Elimination of Starting Strokes: The TOUR Championship will be played as a 72-hole stroke-play event, with all players starting the tournament at even par. The best performer over the course of four rounds at the TOUR Championship will win the FedExCup.

“Toughest tournament to qualify for: Already the most elite field in golf, the TOUR Championship field size will remain at 30 players in 2025. The Player Advisory Council is studying the qualification system of future years to raise the stakes on the entire FedExCup season and reinforce the TOUR Championship as the hardest tournament to qualify for.”

The tour has also made East Lake even harder this season, adding: “Adjustments to course setup: In response to data indicating fans want to see winning scores closer to par, the PGA TOUR Rules Committee will adjust its course setup approach to encourage more risk/reward moments throughout each round, further heightening the drama and competition to determine the FedExCup champion.”
