Despite Southampton’s poor form in the Premier League last season, Ipswich have only managed to win twice against the Saints in the last nine league games – drawing four and losing three times.
Those two wins however, came in the same season in the Championship in the form of a double in 2023/24 season.
Despite both these teams going up this year it still is a shame these two meet yet again in the Championship two seasons later both trying to get back into the top-flight.

Southampton continue decent form at Portman Road
The Saints have own three of their last four away games against Ipswich when travelling to Portman Road.
In that span of time alone, they scored 12 goals and do look to be the most dangerous side of the two, given Ipswich’s rocky start.
Saints to stun the Tractor Boys
Ipswich also drew to League Two Bromley in the EFL Cup during the week, so there’s a little more pressure on them to get the ball rolling with results.
But facing Southampton is a tough team to do it against.
Given their away record against Ipswich, they will be mostly looking to limit any damage as the Saints have won both of their games in all competitions.
The Saints beat Wrexham despite being 1-0 down with just a few minutes of additional time left scoring in the 90th and 96th minute to seal the win.
Across the game they had 76% possession and 27 attempts on goal and they could provide a bit of a shock to the Tractor Boys if they are more clinical from the offset.
