Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion predictions
Wrexham almost had the dream start to life in the Championship.
On matchday one of the 2025/26 season following their promotion from League One last time out, Wrexham faced Southampton away from home.
The Saints had just been relegated from the Premier League with the second-lowest ever points tally, and they were under new management in the shape of Will Still.
Wrexham took the lead at St Mary’s last weekend, as Josh Windass made no mistake from the penalty spot around the quarterway mark.
Phil Parkinson’s men held onto their advantage right up until the 90th minute, when Ryan Manning got Southampton back on level terms.
A point would have been a decent outcome for Wrexham, but more drama was to follow: Jack Stephens found the back of the net in the sixth minute of stoppage time to complete Southampton’s comeback.
It was a hammerblow to Wrexham, who had defended with discipline and diligence after spending much of the match on the back foot. Yet for all that there were positives for Parkinson to take, his team departed the south coast of England empty-handed.
Wrexham were in a happier mood a few days later when they beat Hull City in the first round of the EFL Cup. A thrilling 3-3 draw at the Racecourse Ground was followed by a penalty shoot-out in which Wrexham were perfect, winning 5-3.
This time it was the Welsh team who struck twice late on, with a remarkable Ollie Palmer double in second-half injury time brought Wrexham back level from 3-1 down. Parkinson was no doubt delighted with the fight his team showed.
The Wrexham manager knows that his team are no longer automatic favourites for nearly every league game they face, but he will be pleased that they have been competitive against two second-tier opponents so far.
“We’re in with the big boys,” Parkinson told The Athletic ahead of the new season. “Each division we’ve gone up, we’ve said, ‘This is a test as everything improves’. That’s the quality of players, sports science, and analysts. Everything has to go up for us without changing too much of what we’ve been doing, as that’s brought us success.”
Having got past Hull in the EFL Cup, Wrexham are now aiming to pick up their first victory of the Championship campaign.

Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion betting tips
Wrexham are looking for their first Championship win since 1982 this weekend.
West Brom to win
The last week or so has shown to Wrexham fans that they will not have everything their own way at this level.
Parkinson’s team lost to Southampton and beat Hull on penalties having only just scraped a draw in normal time.
They will face West Brom without Kieffer Moore, George Thomason, Jay Rodriguez, Ollie Rathbone and Andy Cannon, all of whom have been ruled out.
Wrexham currently have the longest injury list in the division and that could be a factor in determining the outcome of this early kick-off on Saturday.
These two clubs have never played each other in the league before. Their only meeting in any major competition came in the FA Cup in 1930, which Wrexham won 1-0. West Brom can get their revenge – belatedly – this weekend.
Back West Brom to win at 7/4 with Tote
Under 2.5 goals
West Brom kick-started their Championship campaign with a 1-0 triumph over Blackburn Rovers, before losing on penalties to Derby County in the EFL Cup first round.
The league is the priority for Ryan Mason in his first season as a manager, so he will not mind too much West Brom’s exit from the cup.
Both of the Baggies’s matches up to now have been low-scoring and there is every reason to believe this game to follow suit.
Wrexham are missing two of their main attackers in Moore and Rodriguez, and Parkinson may adopt a more pragmatic approach after conceding five goals in two games.
Goals could be at a premium at the Racecourse Ground, so take up this appealing offer on under 2.5 goals.

Aune Heggebo to score any time
West Brom spent almost £5m on the signing of Aune Heggebo from Norwegian outfit Brann this summer.
Heggebo scored seven goals in 13 league games for Brann in 2025 before he made the move to The Hawthorns.
The Norwegian season runs from March to November. That means Heggebo played throughout June and July when other Championship players were on their holidays or in pre-season.
That means Heggebo should be sharper and more match-fit than most of his opponents. That, together with his eye for goal, will help him to find the back of the net on Saturday.
